It is only 10 - 15 minutes by motorway from Ponta Delgada and Lagoa. It has an impressive bridge high over a gorge, whose river flows down to the coast, where it meets a wide, gravely, sandy beach. There is a children's play park, carefully landscaped with flower beds, alongside the river valley
