Square at Ribeira Grande, north coast of Sao Miguel, Azores This historic old town dates from 1507 and is only 10 - 15 minutes by motorway from Ponta Delgada and Lagoa There is some impressive Portuguese architecture here and a lovely, peaceful, tree filled square, where the locals sit in the shade, by the fish pond.
