Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores: Forte de Sao Bras, Fortress of Sao Bras This city fort is now run by the military but visitors are welcome to enter, for a very small charge to walk the walls and visit the military museum. It is a 16th century fort, originally built to defend the city from pirates, although the contents of the museum now mainly date from the First World War. The museum is housed directly underneath the walls in vaulted tunnels.
