Waterfall at Ribeira dos Caldeiros, north coast Sao Miguel, Azores This is a really pretty little place, where a waterfall tumbles down some rocks, close to the road. You can pull in to park here and have a scramble about amongst the Hydrangeas to get a closer look. On the other side of the road, is a small snack bar, in a lovely garden area, next to a Mourinho (watermill). This area used to be littered with such mills about 50 or so years ago, when corn was more prevalent than dairy farming.


The mills were water powered and used to grind the corn. Now most are disused and some have been completely swept away by floods. This one is only preserved for tourists.
