The north coast is lined with steep, high cliffs, from which you get breath taking views down to the turquoise sea. Many of the view points have picnic areas and are set in park-like gardens, beautifully manicured. The north road is much quieter than the south, but it still takes an age to get anywhere, since the roads are so winding. Hairpin bends meander around steep river gorges. If your idea of driving heaven is getting out of 3rd gear, this will not be paradise for you. MORE... |

The north coast is lined with steep, high cliffs, from which you get breath taking views down to the turquoise sea. Many of the view points have picnic areas and are set in park-like gardens, beautifully manicured. The north road is much quieter than the south, but it still takes an age to get anywhere, since the roads are so winding. Hairpin bends meander around steep river gorges. If your idea of driving heaven is getting out of 3rd gear, this will not be paradise for you. The roads are generally in very good condition and well maintained. Only a few sections were ready for a new surface. The sides of the road are well kept too. Hydrangeas, Himalayan Ginger, Monbretia and countless other exotic flowers grow wild amongst the plane trees and conifers. The grass is regularly mown close between these bushes, accentuating their beauty and aiding visibility - except that it does mean that every now and then you come across a team of workers in the middle of the road, with strimmers.
