Povocao, Sao Miguel, Azores. Povocao feels very different to most rural towns and villages in Sao Miguel: it feels affluent. Lying on the south coast, but flanked by the huge Pico Da Vara, it has a picturesque setting. It was the first place settled - my guide books say in 1444, but the monument in the village square says 1432. So somewhere around then. The town has a small sandy beach, again we didn't mange a photo, sorry. It was late, we were tired and the sun was going down. You'll just have to go there yourself to discover it.
