 Swimming pools and fishing port at Lagoa, south coast Sao Miguel, Azores. The pools at Lagoa are amazing. There's a mixture of manmade and natural rock pools - the natural ones are big enough for a few people to swim in and when the waves crash in, you get a free water chute ride! We didn't try to count all the pools, but even on a weekend, it didn't seem crowded. There is also a large children's pool and a "proper" pool, with lanes. MORE... |

Swimming pools and fishing port at Lagoa, south coast Sao Miguel, Azores. The pools at Lagoa are amazing. There's a mixture of manmade and natural rock pools - the natural ones are big enough for a few people to swim in and when the waves crash in, you get a free water chute ride! We didn't try to count all the pools, but even on a weekend, it didn't seem crowded. There is also a large children's pool and a "proper" pool, with lanes. There are diving boards and spring boards and areas to just chill out and sun bathe. And guess what? It was free! Honestly, we just couldn't get over this island. It provides all these amazing facilities for its inhabitants (and us, lucky visitors) and for nothing. There are changing areas, showers, toilets and a café here and it is all life-guarded.
