View from the swimming area at Lagoa, south coast Sao Miguel, Azores. We stayed a week at Lagoa and loved it. It is a proper, working fishing town in a great location, making it easy to explore the rest of the island. There are some great restaurants: out favourites were the O Alambique, behind the Post Office and a great fish restaurant, down at the harbour, whose name we didn't make a note of. You'll soon recognise it: it's always full. This shot and the previous one show the amazing swimming area. It combines manmade leisure pools, a fitness pool with "lanes" and some natural rock pools, big enough to swim in, with diving boards and spring boards. There are sunbathing areas ad a poolside cafe, along with showers and changing facilities and all for free. Wonderful.
